چکیده

We address the deployment of Random Early Detection (RED) on class-based queues (CBQs) with shared buffer by deriving novel RED algorithms for the complete sharing and sharing with minimum allocation schemes and comparing their performance with RED under complete partitioning that is equivalent to using a dedicated buffer for each CBQ. In our novel RED algorithms, packet drop decision is based on the estimated average lengths of both the effective subqueue and the whole queue. Simulation results ascertain and demonstrate the superiority of the proposed schemes in terms of lower packet drop ratio under congestion situations, with different RED parametersunder diverse RED drop probabilities and weight factors.

Fairness Analysis of TCP/IP

Bandwidth sharing between multiple TCP connections has been studied under the assumption that the windows of the different connections vary in a synchronized manner. This synchronization is a main result of the deployment of Drop Tail buffers in network routers. The deployment of active queue management techniques such as RED will alleviate this problem of synchronization. We develop in this pa...

Design of Modified RED Implemented in a Class Based CIOQ Switch

A Combined Input and Output Queued (CIOQ) switch with a certain speedup of S (1<S<N) can achieve 100% throughput and offer QoS guarantees. In this paper, we present the deployment of Random Early Detection (RED) on a CIOQ switch that has priority queues with shared buffer (class based switch). We first give an estimated model to concrete that one RED controller per output port is sufficient for...

An Improvement over Random Early Detection Algorithm: A Self-Tuning Approach

Random Early Detection (RED) is one of the most commonly used Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms that is recommended by IETF for deployment in the network. Although RED provides low average queuing delay and high throughput at the same time, but effectiveness of RED is highly sensitive to the RED parameters setting. As network condition varies largely, setting RED's parameters with fixed ...

On Packet Marking Function of Active Queue Management Mechanism: Should It Be Linear, Concave, or Convex?

Recently, several gateway-based congestion control mechanisms have been proposed to support the endto-end congestion control mechanism of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol). In this paper, we focus on RED (Random Early Detection), which is a promising gateway-based congestion control mechanism. RED randomly drops an arriving packet with a probability proportional to its average queue length (i...
